Business Bio

Marilyn Parrish, LMSW received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University and a Master of Social Work Degree from Arizona State University.  Marilyn has a passion for helping individuals and families develop coping skills and insight to deal with challenges, heal from trauma, and become more resilient.  She has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in individual, family, and group settings.  Marilyn believes that therapy should be a safe space where healing can occur, and adopts a client-centered approach, utilizing therapeutic techniques that best meet each person's unique needs.  She has experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Strengths Perspective, Child-Centered Play Therapy, and other modalities.  She has helped clients address concerns such as abuse, anxiety, depression, anger management, grief, self-esteem, and relationship issues.  Marilyn especially loves to engage with children in play therapy, using their "language of play" to work through difficulties.  In addition, she values the influence of parents and each family member in fostering change.  Marilyn currently works at Counseling and Testing Services at the University of North Texas as the Assistant Director of Staff and Faculty Training and counseling students of the University with a variety of needs and issues.
