Are you a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? So am I. As a therapist, I can understand where you're coming from, and I am someone you can feel safe with and trust.
We can talk about depression, anxiety, relationship and family problems, insomnia, panic, worry, perfectionism, OCD, addictive behaviors, and whatever else that may be stressing you out and making you feel "not good enough."
Mental health problems and major life challenges can and do happen to anyone, including good people in and out of the Church, as I experienced first-hand and in doing 20+ years as a therapist for Church Family Services, community agencies, in a secular HMO outpatient clinic, and now in private practice.
Trauma and abuse can happen to anyone, too, including Latter-day Saints. If you're a survivor of trauma or abuse, I can help you using both my specialties, as a Certified EMDR Therapist and a faith-based counselor.
Maybe it's not the past, but right now that is hard. Is your life just not "turning out" the way you planned? Are you dealing with something you never imagined you would face? Wrestling with these hardest challenges in life is when you most need effective counseling to help you find peace and purpose going forward.
For many, one of these things that is so hard is having someone you love stepping away from the Church--or you, yourself, struggling with doubt. How do we honor agency, cope with the angst we feel, and still live together in love? It can help to talk confidentially with a therapist who understands what it's like when our foundation is shaken and will respect you as you find your way.
Or maybe your life is "fine" and you don't understand why you feel so down and discouraged, but you do.
I believe and I know that with the Lord's help, you can get through any challenge in life.
I also know you don't have to do it alone. I am here, as close as your computer or phone. I hope you will reach out.
PS: If you or your young adult have concerns about serving a mission, I am well-qualified to help, having counseled hundreds of young full-time LDS missionaries. This gave me a close-up view of the realities of missionary life and what it's like to be a young adult in the Church today.
