Marie Harris

I hold a Masters of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia.  I am certified in Prepare and Enrich Marriage Counseling.

My counseling experience includes work with clients, ages 6 and older.  I have an extensive history in the human services field, working for 15 years in a variety of settings, including School Therapeutic Day Treatment, School Mental Health Counselor, Intensive In-Home Therapy, and most of my 15 years has been in outpatient counseling (in-person and virtual counseling).

I am affiliated with the American Association of Counseling (ACA), the Northern Virginia Licensed Professional Association, the Association of Latter Day Saint Counselors and Psychotherapists (AMCAP), and the American Association of Christian Counseling.

I enjoy diversity in personalities, cultures, lifestyles, and issues. I have worked with clients with symptoms of major depression, severe anxiety, autism, behavioral disorders, couples and marital issues.  I have had great success in providing marriage and relationship counseling, co-parenting skill building, Couples Emotion Coaching and Parent Emotion Coaching.

My therapeutic approaches are scientifically researched and proven highly effective, such as mindfulness, strength based, and person-centered treatments. Counseling should surround each client with unbiased acceptance and respect, openness, and safety while working together on finding the links to each individual’s solutions.  Therapeutic techniques are derived from Cognitive-based, Solution-focused and Emotion-based therapies, including CBT, DBT, ACT, EFT, and Family Systems therapy. I am currently in EMDR training.

I believe in lifelong learning and my plan is to never stop with my continuing education, especially Neuro-Science and how it connects with our body’s physiology. My free time is spent with our children and grandchildren, and my hobbies of home and furniture refurbishing, crafts, wood carving and mosaics.
