As a Nevada licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Nationally- and State-Certified Problem Gambling Counselor and Clinical Supervisor, and Nevada Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, I've had my private practice (Red Hawk Counseling) open since I graduated from UNR in 1992. I've worked at three behavioral health hospitals in the Reno area over the years, and currently maintain my private practice half-time while running the Reno Problem Gambling Center, a non-profit outpatient treatment program for people affected by Gambling Disorder. I developed and teach a course on "Exploring Gambling Behaviors" for the University of Nevada, Reno. I served on the State Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors for four years. I was appointed to the Governor's Advisory Committee on Problem Gambling when it began and continue to serve today. I started the Northern Nevada LifeStar franchise in 2008 and continue to use LifeStar training and curriculum in my treatment of families affected by pornography. My areas of interest are serving couples, families, groups and individuals challenged by addictive disorders, relationships, divorce and blended families, and the effects of anxiety, depression, anger and legal issues. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I work closely with Church leaders who refer individuals and families to me and request speaking or webinar opportunities. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Adlerian Theory, Rational Emotive Behavioral Theory, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, among other emotionally-centered, family-systems and solutions-focused therapeutic interventions.
