Nedra Toponce

Nedra Toponce, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist trained in Systemic , Strategic, Cognitive -Behavioral and couples therapy has been counseling individuals, couples, and families for over 10 years. She obtained her first degree in 1988 from BYUI (Ricks College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Family Studies with a focus on Human Development from BYU in 2004. After serving on various community and international boards attending the United Nations and World Congress on Family Conferences held worldwide, developing and directing a volunteer program and doing clinical case work for DCFS, and teaching at-risk teenagers about healthy sexuality and proper dating, she attended Springfield, College in Springfield, Massachusetts for graduate studies where she graduated in 2003. In 2005, she attended a doctoral program at Loma Linda, California where she was a part of a research group on power struggles between couples. Although her studies were shortened with a family move to Chicago, Illinois, she considers the doctoral experience cementing her desire and long-time goal of opening the Couples Counseling Center. She has been in private practice since 2009 in Idaho Falls, where she primarily sees couples. She is also a frequent visiting counselor at the BYUI counseling Center. She has worked at Providence Hospital in Holyoke, Massachusetts, private group practices in Orange County California, and LDS Family Services in Nashua, New Hampshire, Chicago, Illinois, and Provo, Utah. She is often a presenter on the subject of marriage and parenting in community and religious organizations. As an Adjunct professor at BYUI, she taught marriage and premarital courses. She believes the family of origin, culture and environment, intrapersonal beliefs and ways of coping with the environment, moral beliefs and conduct, and interactional patterns with family and a spouse all have a major impact that influences the individual. Balancing personal growth and achievement with meeting the needs of loved ones can often be a challenge in our changing world. She is concerned about the breakdown of the family and understands the complexity of gender roles and responsibilities for both men and women within the home. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience of such difficult issues. She continually gains professional educational development to enhance her clinical knowledge through trainings often held by The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and AMCAP where she is a Clinical Member.
