When:  Our annual Fall conference will take place on October 3rd & 4th. 

Where:  With the continued renovations of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, we are excited to be meeting again at the Marriott University Park in Salt Lake City, UT. 

Registration:  Registration is now open. Click here to register! As always, AMCAP members will receive a 20% discount on ticket prices.  Online registration is open until Friday, September 27.  Walk-in registration will be available the day of if space allows.  Same day registration at the door will incur an additional charge.  Please also note that there will be no accommodations for dietary restrictions for same-day registration.  Space is  limited this year, so we encourage you to register early!

We are excited for our theme this year,  “Grief & Loss.”  Our conference committee has been working hard to put together a schedule of speakers and presenters that will be uplifting, informative and applicable to you in your therapy practice. 

Highlights and Keynote Speakers:

 Thursday, October 3rd:  Welcome to the annual conference! We’ll start off hearing from Sister Michelle Craig and AMCAP President Brent Taylor. From there we’ll separate into breakout sessions.    

Friday, October 4th:  The second day of the conference will include keynotes from Dr. Derek Hagey and Dr. Gary Jorgensen, business and professional courses, and additional breakout sessions.

Keynote Speaker: Sister Michelle Craig

Michelle Craig finds great joy in being a wife, mother of 3, and nana to 13. Michelle recently completed her service as First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. During her service she was blessed to meet many around the world who follow the example of Jesus Christ and “go about doing good”. She has great hope for the rising generation and their capacity to make a difference in the world.

Keynote Speaker: Brent A. Taylor, PhD, LMFT

Brent A. Taylor, Ph.D., began his professorship at San Diego State University (SDSU) in 2000 when he also became licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in California.  He served as the program director of the Marriage and Family Therapy program for 9 years and then as the department chair of Counseling and School Psychology for 7 years at SDSU. His educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from BYU, a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern University, and he earned more master’s degrees along his path to completing his doctoral degree in Sociology with a clinical emphasis in MFT at the University of Southern California. He has served in various leadership roles and on boards of professional agencies and associations. His publications are in various academic journals and books, and he has presented numerous times around the country. He also maintains a clinical private practice. He is the father of three children and has one grandchild.

Keynote Speaker: Derek Hagey, PhD, LMFT

Derek Willis Hagey, PhD, LMFT is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Utah. He received his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stout and his PhD from Kansas State University both in Marriage and Family Therapy. Derek is currently employed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Family Services and provides oversight for subject matter expertise on several mental health and relationship issues. Derek has previously managed an agency for Family Services in New Hampshire and worked with clients and Church leaders throughout New England. Derek has taught in several universities’ MFT programs and is currently a part-time associate professor at National University and adjunct core faculty for Plymouth State University’s MFT program in Plymouth, New Hampshire.

Keynote Speaker: Gary Jorgensen, PhD, LMFT

Gary Q. Jorgensen has a BS degree in History, Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology all at the University of Utah. He has been the Director of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Clinic at The Haven in Salt Lake City, Utah. Other positions include Director of University of Utah School on Alcohol and other Drug Dependence, University of Utah Associate Professor Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Utah Adjunct Professor teaching in the School of Social Work, Educational Psychology and School or Psychology. He is a Licensed Psychologist and Family and Marriage Counselor in the State of Utah. Currently he teaches as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Utah.
